Privacy Policy
Last Updated: January 2, 2026
Simple Summary: Roamlog uses your location to automatically track time spent in different states and countries. All your data stays on your devices and in your personal iCloud account. We have no access to your information and never share it with anyone.
1. Information We Collect
Location Data:
Roamlog collects your device's location to provide automatic time tracking functionality. Specifically:
- State and Country location - We detect when you enter a new state or country
- Background location - When you enable "Always" permission, we track location changes even when the app is closed
- Coarse location - We only need state/country level precision, not your exact GPS coordinates
What We Do With Location Data:
- Process it locally on your device to determine your state or country
- Store only the state/country name (not GPS coordinates) in your entries
- Never transmit location data to our servers (we don't have any servers)
- Never share location data with third parties
Other Data You Enter:
- Travel dates and duration
- Purpose notes you add to entries
- Any other information you manually enter
We Do NOT Collect:
- Your name, email address, or contact information
- Your precise GPS coordinates
- Device identifiers or advertising IDs
- Usage analytics or crash reports
- Any personally identifiable information beyond location
2. How Your Data is Stored
All data collected by Roamlog is stored exclusively in your personal iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit framework. This means:
- Local storage first: Data is stored on your device
- iCloud sync: Data syncs across your Apple devices signed into the same iCloud account
- Apple's security: Protected by Apple's encryption and your iCloud password
- We cannot access it: We (the app developers) cannot access, view, or retrieve your data
- Apple's terms apply: Your data is subject to Apple's iCloud Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy
3. Location Permission
Why We Need "Always" Location Permission:
Roamlog requests "Always" location access to provide automatic tracking. This allows the app to:
- Detect when you enter a new state or country automatically
- Start and stop tracking entries without you opening the app
- Send you notifications when your location changes
- Provide accurate time tracking even when you're traveling
You Are In Control:
- You can deny location permission and manually add entries instead
- You can change permission to "While Using App" in iOS Settings (automatic tracking won't work)
- You can disable tracking at any time in the app's Settings
- You can revoke location permission completely in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services
4. Third-Party Services
Roamlog uses only one third-party service:
- Apple iCloud - For data storage and sync across your devices. Your use of iCloud is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
We do not use:
- Analytics services (no Google Analytics, no Firebase, etc.)
- Advertising networks
- Social media integrations
- Crash reporting services
- Any other third-party tracking or data collection services
5. Data Sharing
We do not share your data with anyone.
Your location data and entries remain entirely within your control:
- Location data is processed locally on your device
- All data is stored only in your personal iCloud account
- We have no servers to send data to
- We do not sell, rent, or share your information with third parties
